SECC Spring Scooter Meet

The Southeastern Cushman Club meet in Cochran, Georgia is over and we are back home. I have unloaded the two scooters that I took, and my tools, helmet, and such stuff have all been put away.

As usual it was a good meet and the weather was nice. The city fathers in Cochran, the southern Georgia town that has hosted the meet for 22 years, went out of their way to make it a pleasant stay. The scooter games were held between the police department and the court house. As usual, the games were a lot of fun. In the slow race, some of the racers were able to bring their scooters to a complete stop without putting a disqualifying foot on the ground. The backseat driver competition that features a blindfolded driver in a golf cart was, as usual, hilarious. Since golf carts ususally don't have back seats, the back seat driver had to sit beside the driver telling him which way to turn.

Friday morning, there was a scooter show. Winners are picked by a vote of the members.

There were numerous rides throught the rural Georgia country side where flowers plants are in full bloom. There was also a parade from the meet site into town where hundreds of scooters circled the business district. The parade and the scooter games brought out a large number of local spectators.

Friday night was the time for the banquet, featuring great southern food, a slide show and presentation of trophies.

Scooters were bought and sold, and parts venders did a brisk business.

We also enjoyed seeing old scooter friends from a dozen or more states. We will see most of them again when the fall meet brings us to the mountains of North Georgia. The fall meet is held near Hiawassee, Georgia, which is only a short scooter ride from the North Carolina state line.

If you don't see pictures, check back later. I hope to get some posted tomorrow, but it is going to be a busy day.
